i did not attempt sucide- osun state worker
A
sanitation officer with Obokun Local Government Council of Osun State,
Mr. Olufemi Owolabi, has denied that he wanted to commit suicide for a
second time because of unpaid salaries.
Owolabi made the denial during a radio programme on Orisun FM on Sunday in Ile-Ife.
According to him, it was wrong for people to tag his illness as an attempt to commit suicide.
Though,
he did not state the nature of his illness, he pleaded with the public
to ignore the information that he attempted to commit suicide.
He explained that he was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment immediately the undisclosed illness developed.
Owolabi
also noted that though the unpaid salaries were making him go through
hard times, he would not have attempted to take his own life on that
basis.
"People,
I am alright. I didn't attempt to commit suicide because of unpaid
salaries. It is true that I was sick and I was immediately taken to the
hospital, I did not take anything to kill myself," he said in Yoruba
language.
Earlier, his
wife, Mrs. Racheal Owolabi, said her husband would not have attempted
suicide because he was not the only one being owed.
She
added, "My husband's medical condition did not have anything to do with
salaries. Owolabi has been battling with his own medical conditions
without the problem of delay in salaries."
The
Head of Local Administration of Obokun Local Government Area, Dr. T. L.
Adesina, when contacted, said "the man had just been paid for the month
of February."
