Some might
appear demure on the red carpet and casual in their day-to-day lives,
but for many performers, whether actresses or musicians, getting dressed
means letting it all hang out.
But while the
bottom-grazing get-ups beloved of Madonna have lost the power to shock,
other stars have turned outrageous outfits into an art form.
From the
revealing ni pple pasties beloved of Miley Cyrus to the bizarre machine g
un b ra donned by Lady Gaga. Some other big names with no limits when
it comes to sartorial showing off.
MILEY CYRUS
Once a demure
Disney Club ingénue, recent years have seen Miley Cyrus, 22, show off an
increasingly risqué repertoire of stage get-ups.
Nipple pasties
are a favourite choice, as the star demonstrated last week when she took
to the stage at the Adult Swim Upfront Party with a pair of pink
butterflies concealing her nipples.
And it's not
the first time that the star has gone out of her way to shock: most
famously when she took to the stage at the 2013 VMA's in a n ude PVC
two-piece.
Miss Cyrus then
proceeded to put on a raunchy show in which she enthusiastically
twerked on 38-year-old singer, Robin Thicke, and stuck out her tongue.
LADY GAGA
She's never
knowingly under-dressed whether on stage or not, so its no surprise to
discover more than a few bizarre get-ups in Lady Gaga's wardrobe.
Past
performances have seen the 29-year-old take to the stage in exaggerated
clear PVC costumes, complete with a fan-like headdress, and odd
octopus-themed ensembles.
The star also
has no problem with nu dity and vio lence, having previously donned
sheer lace body stockings, meat dresses, gu n b ras, and, at one point,
crawling on stage covered in blood for a 2009 performance of Paparazzi.
BEYONCÉ
The singer is
usually known for stage outfits that are show-stopping rather than
provocative but in April 2013, Beyoncé donned a gold sequin bodysuit on
the Serbian leg of her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour that came complete
with fake br easts and ni pples.
The singer had married rapper Jay Z a year earlier.
KATY PERRY
Known for her
whimsical, vibrant style, Katy Perry's stage costumes frequently play up
this characteristic, although not always to stylish effect.
The
raven-haired singer has also donned a sheer leotard covered in bizarre
neon stickers, smiley face b ras, popcorn skirts, and a gold embellished
dress with odd attached wings placed at the h ips.
NICKI MINAJ
She's a
famously eccentric dresser and for Nicki Minaj, there's no better
showcase for the more outré get-ups in her wardrobe than on stage.
Other
performances have seen the star sport candyfloss-pink hair as well as
graffiti print leggings and skin-tight fluoro bodysuits.
One
particularly memorable look was the orange leather bustier with peplum
cartoon leggings and disco ball shoulder pads worn for the Victoria's
Secret show in 2011.
RIHANNA
Rihanna's
performances are certainly not for the faint-hearted thanks to the
27-year-old's love of revealing ensembles and se xualised dance moves.
Earlier this
year, the Barbudan performer showed her fans a get-up consisting of
skimpy shorts and a revealing top paired with a bizarre shaggy green fur
jacket and over-the-knee PVC boots in the same colour.
Another
memorable stage outfits was a gladiator style costume with over-the-knee
plated boots, high-waisted shorts and a sheer top that exposed her b
ra.
One outfit consisted of nothing more than an embellished b ra and un derwear set and fishnet tights.
TAYLOR SWIFT
She may be
revered for her consistently on-point wardrobe but even immaculate
songstress Taylor Swift is susceptible to a hiccup or two in the fashion
department.
The 25-year-old
took to the 2013 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in New York in a Union
Jack minidress - complete with a bizarre single long sleeve, a
splattered train and mini top hat.
RITA ORA
She's certainly no shrinking subject and unsurprisingly, some of Rita Ora's on-stage choices have been wacky to say the least.
