How a young man was electrocuted while attempting to steal in Kaduna



An unidentified middle-aged man was electrocuted at the early hours of yesterday while trying to vandalise power supply installation at Accra Crescent by LEA primary school, Unguwar Rimi, Kaduna.


The Dan Iyar Unguwar Rimi, Alhaji Muhammad Gidado, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that the corpse of the vandal was evacuated from the scene by the police from Unguwar Rimi Division.

He said the said vandal was unknown to them and urged the law enforcement agencies to step-up patrols as the community had suffered from the activities of vandals lately.

Investigation by our correspondent revealed that the late vandal tried to steal the 150mm four core upriser cables at the distribution sub-station along Accra Crescent when nemesis caught up with him.

The head, Corporate Communications of Kaduna Electric, the operator of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, Abdulazeez Abdullahi appealed to the customers of the company to be more vigilant and report to the police any suspicious movements around power supply installations especially in the night, stressing that the activities of these hoodlums is causing a set-back to the company’s effort at providing steady power supply to its customers.

Mr. Abdullahi further warned criminal elements to desist from damaging and or removing power supply equipment as the consequence could be very tragic.

When contacted, Kaduna State Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Abubakar Zubairu confirmed the incidence.

He said the corpse of the vandal had been deposited at the Barau Dikko specialist hospital.

The police spokesperson further said that investigation into the incidence has commenced.

“When we got the information about the incidence, we contacted the Kaduna Electric which confirmed that the electrocuted man whose name is yet to be ascertained was not their worker. We are doing our best to get details about him,” he said.
