410 births, 187 marriages recorded in IDP camps - NEMA

Over 410 births have been recorded while 187 marriages were conducted at Internally Displaced Persons camps (IDPs) in Borno and Adamawa states between August and September of this year, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said.
The Director General of NEMA, Muhammad Sani Sidi stated this when members of BringBackOurGirls Group (BBOG) paid him a courtesy call in his office yesterday.
Sidi explained that 100 marriages were conducted in Maiduguri camps alone while 87 were done in Adamawa camps.
He said emergency education for IDPs children became a major priority after unprecedented insurgency attacks on students, teachers and schooling infrastructure where about 269 teachers lost their lives.
Earlier, the leader of the Group, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, expressed displeasure over the abduction of the Chibok girls, saying that yesterday marked 596th days since they have been abducted. He appealed to NEMA for more cooperation and mobilization efforts to protect and care for the vulnerable in the society.
Similarly, the Chairman of the BringBackOurGirls Group, Aisha Yesufu stated that they were at the agency’s head office for collaboration in areas of education, IDPs living conditions, security and health among others and how their platform can be helpful to support the efforts of the federal government and the IDPs where necessary.
