Siasia Picks S’Eagles Skipper, Mikel Obi, Iheanacho, Other Surprising Names For Olympics

Chief Coach of the national Olympic football team, Dream Team VI, Samson Siasia has named Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi in his 35-man provisional squad.

In the list released on Friday by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Mikel Oobi is joined by Super Eagles stars, Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Alex Iwobi, Odion Ighalo, Godfrey Oboabona, William Troost Ekong, Kenneth Omeruo and goalkeeper Daniel Apkeyi.

Meanwhile, the NFF has disclosed that the team will depart Nigeria next week for a final training camp in the United States of America ahead of the tournament in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The NFF had earlier announced that there would be a friendly match between the Nigeria Olympic team and the U23 National Team of Mexico in Mexico on Saturday, 2nd July. The match will take place at the Aguascalientes Stadium at 8.30pm Mexican time.

The NFF also announced that after the friendly, the Nigeria U23 squad will continue its training camp in the United States of America and will play Charleston Battery FC in Atlanta on Saturday, 16th July. A game against the Honduras U23 team is also being planned for 27th July.
