The Nigerian Army has responded to the report by the human rights organisation, Amnesty International on alleged war crimes committed by the military.
These allegations included reports of 8,000 people murdered, starved, and tortured to death.
However, reacting to AI’s claims in a press briefing held today, June 19, the Nigeria Army Chief of Administration, Adamu Abubakar, stated that the allegations “are a repeat of the same allegations made in 2011.”

According to him, the only new claim made by AI was the reported increase of victims of extrajudicial killings from 4,600 to 13,000 which he said, “The military is still conducting investigations.”
Also, addressing the insurgency in the Northeast, Abubakar said that 350 suspected Boko Haram terrorists have been recommended for trial at a Federal Court
In a report published by Sahara Reporters, it was gathered that the trial would be centred on the terrorist activities in the Northeast.
The 350 Boko Haram suspects recommended for trial is, however, only a fraction of the 504 persons currently in detention.
Abubakar said that two joint investigation teams have been set up by the defense headquarters to investigate, screen and categorise suspected insurgents in detention.
He added that files on the suspects have been forwarded to the office of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Justice for further review.
This development comes just a day after the Global Peace Index of 2014 ranked Nigeria as the second most deadly country in the world after Iraq .
Such a rating is caused by frequent attacks by  Boko Haram in 2013 and 2014 which experienced a 140% increase in deaths.
