Thibaut Courtois hails Terry’s management of Chelsea’s dressing room
Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has praised Blues captain John Terry, believing the 34-year-old “manages the dressing room well”, as per Goal.
The 23-year-old spent three years on loan at Spanish giants Atletico Madrid, but returned to Stamford Bridge in 2014 to become the West London club’s new number one in between the sticks.
The Belgium international was crowned a Premier League and Capital One Cup winner in his opening season as Chelsea blew teams away – a large part down to the form of Terry.
The former England captain played in every single minute of every league game last season and Courtois has hailed the skipper’s leadership skills since the Belgian arrived at the club.
Courtois said: “John is a really good captain. He manages the dressing room well, he knows how to lead the team and he’s important in the back four. In the first few games there were maybe some misunderstandings [between us], but small ones.
“After, when you get to know each other well and how each other plays, it went really well and we showed it during the season.”
Terry has made over a remarkable 650 appearances in all competitions for the Blues during 16 years, winning four Premier League titles, one Champions League, five FA Cups, three League Cups and one Europa League.
He made his Chelsea debut in October 1998 as a late substitute in a League Cup clash with Aston Villa, before going on to become one of the most influential players at the club.
Terry, who won 78 caps for England before retiring from the international scene a few years ago, replaced Marcel Desailly as Chelsea captain at the start of the 2004/05 campaign.
