SUNSHINE STARS BACK TO SUMMIT
Lagos - A late winner from Kingsley Udoh helped Sunshine Stars back to the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League as the Akure Gunners claimed a 2-1 victory over ten-man Warri Wolves on Thursday in Akure.
Stephen Eze cancelled out Ikechukwu Ibenegbu's early opener, only for Kingsley Udoh to grab the match winner in the 90th minute to ensure that the homers increased their points haul to 23 from a possible 36 after week 12 games.
Kano Pillars continued their title defence with an ultimately comfortable 4-1 win over clueless Giwa FC at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
Pillars made their hard work in the first half count as they were ahead in the 6th minute when Rabiu Ali converted a spot-kick.
Big striker Adamu Mohammed lobbed the ball over the onrushing Friday Achimugwu to double the lead of the defending champions.
The Jos Elephants thought they had given themselves a big chance of causing an upset when Ocheme Edoh reduced the deficit in the 37th minute.
Two minutes later, Pillars' greater quality shone through as Rabiu Ali quickly established a two-goal cushion from the spot.
Pillars' fourth of the game, and 15th of the season, was scored by Adamu Mohammed and ensured a routine win for Coach Okey Emordi.
Wikki Tourists caused an upset as they consigned FC Taraba to a 2-1 defeat.
The visitors were not expected to claim three points after their 0-0 home draw against Enyimba FC on Sunday, but Abdul Maikaba's side rose to the occasion against all odds.
Chukwudi Samuel and Godwin Obaje put Wikki Tourists - ranked 6th on the ladder - two goals up after 70 minutes and although Luther Iyorhe pulled a goal back in the 76th minutes, the Pride of Taraba further pushed themselves down to the dreaded relegation zone.
