King Sunny Ade Veteran singer unveils radio station in Ondo
The music legend has joined the growing league of broadcast media owners in Nigeria.
King Sunny Ade (KSA) is set to float a radio station in his native Ondo State.
The radio station named ‘M&C (Music & Culture) FM’, will have the local and global influence of the Nigerian music legend in molding it into one of the best in the country.
KSA is reportedly said to have taken a long time on purpose to perfect the technical process related to running a standard radio station and has put together a management team inclusive of financial directors, one of Nigeria’s foremost journalists as the media manager and a top broadcast engineer, with himself as chairman.
KSA reportedly applied for the license in 2006 under the Olusegun Obasanjo administration and according to him, the station will begin transmission before the end of this year.
Speaking on why it took almost a decade to get the regulatory approval, KSA said: “Whatever is worth doing is worth doing well. The NBC has its operational standard, so do I. I deliberately took time off to carefully select a team of loyal partners who share (the) same vision on what a music station should be.
“Don’t forget also that this will be the first radio station in Nigeria that will be solely devoted to promoting our culture and our music,’ he added.
