EFCC Arrest Lamido And Sons Over Graft

 

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), yesterday arrested the immediate past governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido along with his two sons over allegations of graft.

Lamido and his two sons — Aminu and Mustapha — were picked up in Abuja on Tuesday and taken to Kano where they are expected to be arraigned today before the Federal High Court there, reports Vanguard. They are expected to face a-24-count charge bordering on money laundering and related offences.
According to the EFCC, Lamido used his sons to transfer state funds into companies in which they had interest and also received kickback to the tune of N1.3 billion from a local road building company, but did not say the job was not done.
Spokesman of the commission, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the arrest and transfer of Lamido and his sons to Kano, but did not say why they were moved to Kano.
Lamido had two weeks ago cut short an overseas vacation to honour an invitation by the anti-graft agency. He was questioned about the alleged fraud carried out while he was in office. He denied allegations that he embezzled state funds and was granted administrative bail.
The former governor was said to have assembled a team of lawyers to defend him and his sons, noting, however, that he knew noting about the charges.
